News of Armed Home Invasion Released Over One Month After Armed Attack of Woman In Buffalo Grove

$

0

Buffalo Grove police responded in darkness on Monday June 10, 2013 to a home invasion in the block of 200 Raupp Boulevard Buffalo Grove, IL. An extensive manhunt and K-9 search immediately followed the report of the home invasion. A female homeowner was injured slightly during the home invasion, and was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where she was released a short time later.

Arlington Heights police assisted the manhunt with a K-9 unit.

Yesterday one subject, Joseph M. Bonadonna, 17, of the 16000 block of Woodbine Circle, appeared in Cook County Circuit Court — Rolling Meadows branch — on the charge of home invasion with a firearm. Bonadonna’s bond was set at $80,000.

Police believe Bonadonna is one of five subjects, who collectively were armed with baseball bats and a gun during the June 10, 2013 attack. A warrant has also been issued for a 17-year-old from Lake Zurich.

The group attacked the female in her home and fled before police arrived. It is unknown whether the female victim knew the attackers.

The home invasion occurred five days after Buffalo Grove and Arlington Heights police switched radio communications and were no longer capable of being monitored because the radios are encrypted and also use TDMA technology that is not received by any currently manufactured police/fire scanner. Northwest Central Dispatch System switched to the new secret technology on Wednesday morning, June 5, 2013.

The Cardinal has previously reported that the secret radio communications presents a danger to the public, especially if armed subjects are at large and local or regional neighbors have no knowledge of the fleeing offenders and the potential encounter with the armed and dangerous subjects.

The Cardinal argues that police have an obligation to immediately make citizens aware when there are armed subjects believed to be at large in a neighborhood, since the home invaders or armed subjects could commit another home invasion nearby in their efforts to hide and escape.

The lack of awareness that is now assured by Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove police secret radio channels, actually give offenders a better chance at escape because neighbors are not at a heightened level of alertness. Neighbors’ memories are also less likely to remember any suspicious incidents that could be helpful in finding the subjects. Over 30 days have passed since the news of the home invasion. The residents in the area are less likely to remember any circumstances that might have been related to the home invasion that could have helped investigators with a description of a fleeing vehicle or fleeing offender. The lack of awareness also helps offenders go undetected by neighbors that might recognize something suspicious should offender(s) return for a second attack at a later date.

Remember that the capture of Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (see photo of capture) was the result of an alert resident, who had heightened awareness of the Boston manhunt. Despite a massive manhunt, with military-like house-to-house searches and aerial searches, it was one citizen in his backyard that effected the capture of the bomber/terrorist by making a simple 9-1-1 call about the suspicious circumstances in his backyard. The resident’s safety was assured because he knew not to approach his boat parked on the driveway. And Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured because of the resident’s simple 9-1-1 phone call.

The police are making possible deadly decisions that could harm innocent people by going the direction of secret communications instead of using the awareness facilitated by police scanners and smartphone apps. Some police departments have actually embraced the smartphone technology to keep their citizens aware, but some, like Buffalo Grove and Arlington Heights have chosen to go secret even though no harm has come from their previously open communications for the past several decades. Tactical teams can still use secret/secure communications channels, face-to-face meetings, or telephones to achieve the most effective secret surprise approach and surround tactics to apprehend suspects at a specific location.

Maria Magdalena Corral, the mother of a teen abducted from her Ellenwood, Georgia home Tuesday was once arrested in February 2012 on charges she was helping a man traffic 500 pounds of marijuana. Corral’s charges were dropped in that case. The man she allegedly helped is one of the suspects in her daughter’s abduction — suspect Juan Alberto Contreras-Ramirez, age 40.

The other alleged kidnapper is Wildrego Jackson — a man with an extensive criminal history that includes cruelty to children, as well as drug and assault charges. Jackson, has at least 14 aliases, including Wildrego Johnson and Travis Gray. He was held Wednesday on a conspiracy to kidnap charge.

Wildrego Jackson spent time in prison in 2006 on cocaine, marijuana and obstruction of a law enforcement officer charges. According to state records, Wildrego Jackson was sentenced to five years in prison but served only one year of prison time.

The kidnappers released Ayvani Wednesday in the town of Conyers, Georgia, about 25 miles from her Ellenwood home southeast of Atlanta. Police detained two suspects in the case, but did not immediately charge them with involvement in the abduction.

Contreras-Ramirez and Wildrego Jackson are not the same men that were depicted in police sketches earlier this week.

Clayton County police reported Tuesday that Ayvani Hope Perez was abducted from a home in the Ellenwood neighborhood on Brookgate Drive after two armed men broke in and shot the family dog. The dog was not killed. Early in the investigation, the home invasion/abduction was reported to be a random crime.

The men demanded money and demanded jewelry at the home invasion. Police are denying reports of a ransom demand.

Cardinal Note: As of June 5, 2013 — up to and including the date of this article — police incidents related to the above police agency are not reported in real time or within a prompt time period. Police protecting their realm of investigation and police activity, have chosen to use secret military-grade encrypted radios to withhold their police communications, which were previously open to the public and news media via monitoring of public safety scanning radios — with no known negative results locally.

The delayed knowledge or entirely blacked out knowledge resulting from encrypted police communications may protect certain police operations and investigations, but it also puts the public at risk in situations such as when armed and dangerous offenders are at large and when other similar situations occur, such as when desperate offenders of property crimes are eluding police. In other cases, the delayed or blacked out information inhibits or prohibits the possibility of the public providing early witness accounts before a criminal trail goes cold. Citizens are much more likely to recognize or recall suspicious or criminal activity if they are aware of the criminal incident within minutes or hours of its occurrence. The most serious incident involving dire results would be a trail that is allowed to go cold in the case of child abduction.

The lack of real time information from public police dispatch also weakens an effective neighborhood watch program mostly working to prevent property loss, but also working to prevent possible violent crimes.

CRIME SCENE JUST EAST OF ROLLING MEADOWS HIGH SCHOOL

Rolling Meadows police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:00 p.m. Sunday to a report of a home invasion wih and elderly woman battered in the 2400 block of Central Road.

A parolee, Stanley Miller, is wanted for allegedly breaking into an elderly woman’s Rolling Meadows home Sunday during a ruse burglary, police said.

A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Stanley Miller, 32, suspected of the 3 p.m. burglary.

Stanley Miller allegedly approached an 86-year-old woman and tried to use a home improvement ruse to get in the house.

The woman kept her screen door locked, but when she walked away from the door, Miller allegedly forced the door open and went to the kitchen looking for money and valuables.

The woman confronted him, and he battered her and fled. The Rolling Meadows homeowner suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.

Police say Miller also tried to enter another home nearby, where a 90-year-old resident lived, but the attempted crime was interrupted when a visitor of the 90-year-old resident coincidentally arrived at about the same time.

Arlington Heights police found the suspect’s vehicle abandoned in a parking lot shortly after the incidents.

Police have identified the man in both incidents as Stanley Miller, and are offering a reward for information leading to his arrest. The 86-year-old female victim identified Miller in a series of file photos,.

Miller is currently on parole after being sentenced to eight years in prison for a 2010 residential burglary conviction in Cook County, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records. He was previously convicted of retail theft in 2009, also in Cook County.

Rolling Meadows police urge any citizens with information on the whereabouts of Stanley Miller to call Rolling Meadows police at 847-255-2416 or Crime Stoppers at 847-590-7867.

Posted by Arlington Cardinal Crime & Forensics on Wednesday, September 2, 2015

In the attack in Willowbrook about 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015, the victim was at her car in her driveway when a man pulled up and asked for money. She refused his request for money and went into the house.

A short time later, when the woman was in her home on 73rd Court, Madison allegedly got out of the car, knocked on her door and asked to make a call so he could get gas money to get back to Indiana. She refused again and said she was going to call the police. Next, Madison allegedly broke in, sexually assaulted her, beat her and then stabbed her. Police reported she was stabbed as many as 16 times. She is expected to make a full recovery.

After the attack, the victim was able to make it to a neighbor’s house for help. On Sunday, she gave police a detailed description of her attacker from her hospital bed. Police created a composite sketch, and were also able to obtain her description of the suspect’s vehicle — a dark blue 2006 Nissan Altima with no front license plate and an Indiana bicentennial plate in the rear. A Nissan Altima matching that description was found Monday in Brookfield, about eight miles or 20 minutes driving time northeast of Willowbrook.

Madison was previously arrested for burglary in 2011 and/or 2012.

Steve Chung, 28, was one of two people charged in a 2014 home invasion that occurred in Wheeling. The victim was held at gunpoint and beaten. An arrest warrant was issued in June 2015 for Chung, whose last known address was in Des Plaines, after he stopped coming to court.

Working with Wheeling Police, the Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit learned last month that Chung was in Guadalajara, Mexico. He had been living in Mexico since June 2015, teaching English online. The Central Warrant Unit contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation Violent Crime Task Force for assistance in locating him.

On Wednesday, Mexican Immigration officials and the FBI located Chung in Guadalajara and arrested him. Mexican immigration officials escorted Chung on his flight this morning to Chicago. Central Warrant Unit officers and FBI agents took Chung into custody after he landed at Midway Airport.

Chung is scheduled to appear for hearing on Friday at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building.

Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the Government in a court of law.

Home Invasion on Scarsdale Ct Near Central Rd, Arlington Heights; Suspect Captured by Palatine Police in Palatine

Arlington Heights police responded about 7:45 AM Sunday to the block of 900 South Scarsdale Court Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that one or two male subjects attempted to break into a house but then fled.

Arlington Heights police put out a local radio broadcast that included Palatine Police Department, but did not broadcast an area wide broadcast on ISPERN, which covers a wider area that includes a greater number of police departments.

Palatine police may have captured a suspect that matched the description of the Arlington Heights home invasion suspect in the area of Quentin Road and Euclid Avenue. A large number of Palatine and Inverness police officers were searching the area of the Chase Bank and in the backyards of homes nearby at Quentin Road and Euclid Avenue about 9:45 a.m. Sunday. The Arlington Heights suspect might have been captured there, but the information has not been confirmed by officials.

A second suspect possibly remains at large.

The initial crime time is reported to have occurred at about 7:45 a.m.

Arlington Heights Police provided no immediate notification about the home invasion or a possible at large suspect involved in a home invasion to Arlington Heights residents via their official Twitter account or their official Facebook account. At this time it is unknown whether any reverse 911 call was made to the neighbors in the nearby home of the home invasion.

A home invasion was reported on the same block at a house on Scarsdale Court on Thursday March 22, 2012 at about 4:55 a.m. Arlington Police responded immediately, which caused the fleeing offenders to dump some of the items they had stolen. A K-9 search helped discover some of the items, but the offenders were not captured. The house was undergoing renovation when the home invasion/burglary occurred, but residents were still living in the home during the renovation.

Lack of real time information from police dispatch also delays public awareness or eliminates public awareness of general hazards and traffic or other situations in every day living in an otherwise economically thriving community.

Police have alternate ways to transmit tactical, operational or investigative information, while still keeping their main public dispatch channels open for the best balance of public safety and police safety.

Rolling Meadows Police Officers Honored for Work Capturing Bank Burglary, Home Invasion Suspect

Rolling Meadows police officers Kurt Herman and Jaime Rivera were honored on Tuesday night for their work in arresting an attempted burglary suspect, armed with a hammer, who was attempting to gain access to the Chase Bank at Euclid Avenue and Quentin Road. The suspect was also believed to be involved with another suspect in a home invasion about 6 miles away at an Arlington Heights home earlier the same day.

Rolling Meadows Police Officers Kurt Herman and Jaime Rivera were given an Award for Exceptional Duty at Tuesday’s city council meeting for their work to apprehend Andrew Palacios on Sunday, May 15, 2016.

Police said Palacios, 26, of Palatine Township, had attempted to break into an Arlington Heights home on South Scarsdale Court near Central Road and Dryden Avenue earlier that day, and then traveled to Euclid Avenue and Quentin Road in Palatine. Palacios broke a window with a hammer at Chase Bank, 825 West Euclid Avenue, to gain entrance to the bank, which was closed on Sunday.

A source, who asked to remain anonymous, reported that Chase Bank, which uses remote video security, was able to provide a description of two suspects to police. Alert dispatchers at Northwest Central Dispatch System 9-1-1 center were able to provide a possible connection with the earlier home invasion suspects in Arlington Heights and the burglary in progress at Chase Bank.

When police arrived at the Chase Bank, Palacios fled on foot. Herman and Rivera chased the man, according to Rolling Meadows Police Chief John Nowacki.

“They were able to catch him and arrest him without incident,” said Rolling Meadows Police Chief John Nowacki. “We’re proud of them for their hard work, their diligence and their persistence.”

Police Officer Kurt Herman has served in the Rolling Meadows Police Department for nine years. Police Officer Jaime Rivera has served the Rolling Meadows Police Department for 14 years, according to Nowacki.

Palacios was charged with one count of burglary and one count possession of burglary tools, both felonies.

A second suspect was able to get away, and possibly fled near Harper College or in a neighborhood near the Chase Bank. Witnesses reported police from multiple agencies searched the area for a considerable time period Sunday morning.

Rolling Meadows police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:31 AM Tuesday to a home invasion robbery in the block of 2400 Cardinal Drive Rolling Meadows, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a woman was injured in a home invasion in her home on Cardinal Drive north of Campbell Street.

Witnesses in the neighborhood were able to provide a description of the vehicle that was used to flee the scene.

A Cook County Sheriff’s Prisoner Bus driver was aware of the vehicle description from radio communications, and was in the area on an assignment to transport prisoners to Cook County Circuit Court in Rolling Meadows.

The Cook County Sheriff’s bus driver happened to observe a vehicle that matched the description of the offenders’ vehicle from Cardinal Drive in Rolling Meadows. The bus driver followed the vehicle or pursued the vehicle, which contained several offenders. Somewhere near Dick’s Sporting Goods while the vehicle was being followed or pursued by the Cook County Sheriff’s Prisoner Bus, a crash occurred and some or all of the suspects were placed in custody.

The crash near Dick’s Sporting Goods at 601 North Martingale Road was reported about 9:36 a.m.

Meanwhile, Rolling Meadows police learned at the crime scene at the home invasion victim’s house that a group of young adults — posing as a church group — rang the doorbell at the victim’s home. The group then forced their way into the woman’s home and began to rob the home. The group of offenders, which involved men and women, held the woman down while her home was ransacked. The woman was injured during the home invasion and was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
